Sardinia Charter Bases
Where yacht charter fleets base in Sardinia: Portisco, Olbia, Cannigione and Porto Cervo, Saturday turnarounds, and which harbour fits a Costa Smeralda or Maddalena week.
Sardinia marina map
Primary charter bases and useful overnight harbours, labelled on the map.
Most Sardinia yacht charter weeks start on the north-east coast, close to Olbia airport and the Costa Smeralda. Portisco and Olbia hold the largest bareboat and catamaran fleets. Cannigione suits Maddalena-first routes, and Porto Cervo is the premium stop rather than a typical Saturday base. For boats and weekly rates see Sardinia yacht charter. For winds and routes, use the Sardinia sailing guide.
Sardinia charter base directory
Marina di Portisco
Primary charter logistics hub for Costa Smeralda weeks. Short hop to Porto Cervo, Porto Rotondo and the outer Maddalena approaches. Busy on Saturdays in July and August.
Olbia / Isola Bianca area
Closest major harbour to the airport and ferry terminal. Useful when transfers matter more than starting inside the Smeralda bays.
Cannigione
North-facing base for crews who want La Maddalena as day one rather than a mid-week destination.
Porto Cervo
Iconic marina with limited charter fleet volume. Better as a mid-week berth or provisioning stop than as the default Saturday turnaround.
Which base for which week
Choose Portisco for a classic Costa Smeralda circuit with short passages. Choose Olbia when airport logistics dominate. Choose Cannigione if Maddalena MPA buoys are the priority. Leave Porto Cervo for lunch stops and overnight berths once the week is under way.
Provisioning, fuel and check-in
Supermarkets, fuel and water are straightforward in Portisco and Olbia. In La Maddalena MPA, anchoring is restricted and buoy fields fill early in peak weeks. Book marine-park tickets and overnight buoys before you leave the base. Nearest airport for most crews: Olbia (OLB).

FAQs
Which Sardinia marina should I depart from?
Most bareboat and skippered weeks start at Portisco or Olbia because the fleets and airport transfers concentrate there. Cannigione suits Maddalena-first itineraries.
Do I need to book marina berths in advance?
In July and August, yes for popular harbours and Saturday changeovers. Shoulder season is more flexible mid-week. Maddalena buoy fields should be reserved early in peak weeks.
Is Porto Cervo a good charter base?
It is an excellent mid-week stop, but not the usual Saturday base. Fleet volume and turnaround logistics sit mainly in Portisco and Olbia.
Can I start in Sardinia and finish in Corsica?
One-way weeks toward Bonifacio are possible with some operators but rarer and usually dearer. Confirm drop-off rules before you lock the route.
Where do I clear into La Maddalena?
Follow the marine park rules for tickets and buoy use. Your base briefing will cover the current booking process for the week you sail.
