Hurghada
Primary Red Sea charter logistics hub with the largest bareboat and skippered fleets and the closest airport for most international crews.
El Gouna
Planned marina town north of Hurghada. Quieter first nights and short hops back toward Hurghada reefs.
Marsa Alam area
Southern reef-focused option when an operator bases there. Treat this as a different week, not a casual day-one hop from Hurghada.
Which base for which week
Choose Hurghada for most weeks and airport transfers. Choose El Gouna for a quieter marina-town start. Choose the Marsa Alam area only when your boat is actually based there.
Provisioning, fuel and check-in
Fuel, water and provisioning are straightforward in Hurghada and El Gouna. Reefs need daylight and a local briefing. Nearest airports: Hurghada (HRG) for the northern bases and Marsa Alam (RMF) for southern starts.

FAQs
Which Egypt marina should I depart from?
Hurghada holds most weekly turnarounds. El Gouna suits quieter marina-town logistics. Marsa Alam is a southern product when the operator bases there.
Do I need to book marina berths in advance?
Base nights are usually part of the turnaround. Mid-week marina nights are less common than reef moorings. Confirm with the operator.
Are reefs open to any skipper?
No. Follow park rules, mooring instructions and the base briefing. Many popular reefs are restricted or require a local lead.
Is skippered charter more common than bareboat?
Skippered is common, especially for first Red Sea weeks. Bareboat exists where operators are comfortable with your tickets and experience.
Can I sail from Hurghada to Marsa Alam in one week?
It is a long coastal hop. Most crews stay in one area unless the operator sets a one-way and the forecast is kind.
