South-east Attica base; better jump toward Kea and the Cyclades.

Piraeus-side marinas; useful berths, fewer bareboat desks than Alimos.

Alimos for Saronic weeks and short transfers. Lavrion if the first days aim at Kea, Kythnos or a Cyclades delivery. Do not under-estimate Meltemi when leaving the Attica coast in high summer.
Provisioning, fuel and check-in
Airport transfers to Alimos are longer than they look on a map in traffic. Fuel and provisioning are easy at both Alimos and Lavrion. Hydra and Poros fill early; have an anchorage plan. Nearest airport for most crews: Athens (ATH).

Should I start from Alimos or Lavrion?
Choose Alimos if you want short hops in the Saronic Gulf and easier access to Athens. Choose Lavrion if your first days head toward Kea and the Cyclades, because the run out of Attica is cleaner from there.
How long is the transfer from Athens airport?
Usually 45 to 90 minutes, depending on whether you are going to Alimos or Lavrion and how heavy Saturday traffic is. Leave more time than the map suggests on changeover day, and do not book a flight that lands just before check-in.
Do crews usually stay in Athens marinas mid-week?
Most charter weeks leave the Attica coast after Saturday checkout and only come back at the end. The marinas work as overnight stops, but the sailing is out toward the islands.
Is Athens a good start for beginners?
Yes for a careful Saronic week with short legs and a realistic plan for summer Meltemi. A first charter that aims straight into open Cyclades passages is a harder test and often needs more experience or a skipper.
