Sporades charter base directory
Skiathos
Primary charter logistics hub with the largest fleets and the closest airport for most international crews. Busy on Saturdays in peak season.
Volos
Mainland option for quieter first nights or when your operator bases further north. Useful gateway into the Sporades from the mainland.
Skopelos
Atmospheric island harbour. More often a mid-week stop than the main Saturday base, though some operators use it for shorter circuits.
Which base for which week
Choose Skiathos for most bareboat and skippered weeks. Choose Volos if your boat is based there or transfers favour the mainland. Treat Skopelos as a highlight stop unless your operator specifically bases there.
Provisioning, fuel and check-in
Fuel, water and supermarket runs are easiest in Skiathos. Popular island quays fill early in July and August. Nearest airport for most crews: Skiathos (JSI).

Which Sporades marina should I depart from?
Most bareboat fleets start in Skiathos because of airport access and fleet volume. Volos suits mainland-based boats; Skopelos is often a mid-week stop.
Do I need to book marina berths in advance?
In July and August, yes for popular harbours and Saturday changeovers. Shoulder season is more flexible mid-week.
Is Skopelos a full charter base?
Some operators use it, but Skiathos holds most weekly turnarounds. Treat Skopelos as a highlight harbour unless your contract says otherwise.
Are there marine park restrictions?
Yes in parts of the northern Sporades. Your base briefing will cover buoy and anchoring rules for the week you sail.
How windy are the Sporades in summer?
Usually kinder than the Cyclades, but open-water Meltemi days still deserve reefing and early arrivals.
