Yacht Charter Central America FAQs
For bareboat charters in Belize a recognised license (e.g., RYA Day Skipper, ICC or ASA) plus recent experience is typically required. In Panama’s Guna Yala and parts of Costa Rica, many charters are skippered or crewed due to reef pilotage and logistics; bareboat availability varies by base and season. If unsure, choose a skippered charter and enjoy the learning experience onboard.
Belize, San Blas and Bocas enjoy warm trade winds most of the year. Popular months are December–May for drier weather and reliable breezes; June–August can be excellent with more showers. Costa Rica’s Pacific is best in the dry season (roughly Dec–Apr). We’ll tailor routes to seasonal wind and sea conditions.
Weekly bareboats start around €2,400–€3,600 in shoulder months, rising to €5,200+ in peak season. Catamarans are typically 40–80% more. Skippers cost ~€150–€220/day plus provisioning; fully crewed yachts start from ~€8,000–€9,000/week. We’ll itemise all expected extras in your quote.
Inclusions generally cover the yacht, safety gear, bed linen and final cleaning. Extra costs include fuel, food and beverages, national park/reef fees, marinas/moorings, skipper/crew (if hired) and optional toys (e.g., SUPs). Some areas require local cruising permits—our team will advise and arrange where possible.
Inside the reef, waters are often calm but require keen lookout in good light to avoid bommies and shallows. Many crews choose a skipper for the first day or two for confidence. We’ll suggest daylight passages, waypoints and safe cuts suitable for your experience level.
We strongly recommend travel insurance covering sailing plus the charter company’s damage deposit scheme or damage waiver. Proof of competence and crew lists are standard; we’ll confirm what your specific yacht and base require well before departure.
